Travel by train

There are three train stations in Budapest: Déli, Keleti and Nyugati.

Trains to Tokaj leave from Keleti or from Nyugati. Make sure to choose a train that is marked IC intercity.

To travel from one train station to another the easiest way is to take the metro. You can buy a ticket for 450 HUF from the purple vending machines. Even if you travel on 2 different metro lines, you can use the same ticket provided that you change underground.

How to buy train tickets

Online or via the MÁV app on your smartphone. If you buy your ticket online, you will get a 10% discount.
- At the train stations, either at the cashier or from a vending machine, or
- At Keleti, next to the train track No. 9, there is a travel agency, where you can buy in-land as well as international tickets, and they speak English.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you have a Student Identity Card issued in the EU containing your photo and stating the name of your school, you are eligible for a 50% discount, and you can buy a student ticket.

 

TRAINS FROM BUDAPEST AIRPORT TO TOKAJ

Budapest Airport >> FERIHEGY train station

Take BKK Public transport bus no. 200E to FERIHEGY VASUTALLOMAS. The journey will take about 15-20 minutes including the short walks to and from the bus stops. You will need 1 single ticket which costs 450 HUF. You can buy the ticket from the purple vending machines at the bus stop or at BKK Customer Center at the Airport Terminal.

Direct IC intercity trains from Ferihegy Train Station to Tokaj leave at 6:42, 8:42, 10:42, 12:42 and 14:42. The journey takes 3 hours.

BUDAPEST – TOKAJ BY TRAIN

Trains from Budapest Keleti to Tokaj

Direct IC intercity trains from Keleti to Tokaj leave at 7:15, 9:15, 11:15, 13:15, 15:15, 17:15. The journey takes 2.5 hours.
The last IC train that will get you to CSI check-in departs at 15:15.

Trains from Budapest-Nyugati to Tokaj

Direct IC intercity trains from Nyugati to Tokaj leave at 6:23, 8:23, 10:23, 12:23 and 14:23. The journey takes 3.5 hours.
The last IC train that will get you to CSI check-in departs at 14:23.

FROM DEBRECEN TRAIN STATION TO TOKAJ

There are direct IC intercity trains from Debrecen to Tokaj every two hours. The journey takes 1 hour.
Trains leave from Debrecen at 6:55, 8:55, 10:55, 12:55, 14:55 and 16:55.

FROM TOKAJ TRAIN STATION TO THE CSI MAIN BUILDING

From the Tokaj train station a 10-minute walk will get you to the CSI Main Building (i.e. the Tokaji Ferenc Secondary School).
