CSI courses:

István Hartenstein was born in Kaposvár, Hungary. He started his music studies under the guidance of György Keszler at the Conservatory of Pécs. He received his diploma as student of Gábor Janota and Tibor Fülemile at the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy in Budapest.

He has been accepted as bassoonist of the Hungarian State Opera at the age of 23. He has been principal bassoonist there since 1988. He had the opportunity to perform with conductors such as János Ferencsik, Giuseppe Patene, Lamberto Gardelli, Pinchas Setinberg, Marek Janowsky, Yuri Simonov, Iván Fischer, Ádám Fischer, Zoltán Kocsis. Chamber music plays an important role in his life. He is founder of the Intermoduláció Chamber Ensemble as well as the Penta Wind Quintet. He has been permanent guest musician of the Budapest Strings Ensemble and the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra.

He has been teaching at the Szent István Conservatory since 1991 and at the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy since 2006.
